We all have that friend that seems to always be on the go to the next exotic vacation. Their Instagram feed is one scenic picture after another. Yet, we scratch our heads wondering how they’re affording these expensive adventures. Believe it or not, though, you can be that person, even if you think you can’t afford it! It’s all in how you spend your money.
Let’s consider our eating-out habits. According to a survey done by Visa, Americans on average spend about twenty dollars (USD) a week only eating lunch out. That means in a year, you’re spending $1,043 on lunch. Now add takeout and fast food, which will cost you about $53 a week, and you’re adding an additional $2,756 spent in a year. That means about $3,800 is going to eating out!! Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the ground.
Look at the little things that you spend money on. It may surprise you how much you’re actually spending on things that you may be able to make yourself. How much are you spending on coffee runs? How about entertainment, groceries, and shopping? You don’t have to completely cut out enjoying that Starbucks macchiato or miss eating out with a friend that’s visiting town. However, knowing where your money is going is a key step in redirecting it to where you want it to go. Especially if you want it to go to a trip that you’ve been dying to go on!
